Celebrate MLK Day at the Newark Museum

Looking for something local do to to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King? The Newark Museum is free (with suggested admission) today and is packed with commemorative activities from noon to 4:30!

Don’t Miss:

  • A live broadcast of President Barack Obama’s Second Inauguration, Noon
  • Film Screenings: Dr. King’s I Have a Dream Speech, 1:30, 2:30 & 3:30 PM
  • Performance: North Jersey Philharmonic Glee Club, 3 PM

Art & Science Workshops: Throughout the day, take part in activities that explore the themes of community and freedom including

  • Silhouette Stories inspired by the work of Kara Walker
  • Freedom Jewel inspired by Josiah Wedgewood’s Emancipation Cameo
  • Chain Link Prints inspired by Melvin Edwards’ Working in New Jersey
  • Feathers for Flight: investigate the science of feathers under a microscope

Gallery Games including Civil Rights Bingo, a Newark Museum tradition

Community Service: Participate in a make & sell workshop with all proceeds donated to Governor Christie’s Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund

Legends of the Night Sky: 1 & 3 PM
Tales of the Maya Skies: 2 & 4 PM
